Universal Symbols

There are some internationally accepted Symbols appearing in nearly all modern chess literature. These symbols are mainly used for evaluation purposes, to give instructions, and outline situations.

The most frequent symbols are:

+ -White has a decisive advantage
- +Black has a decisive advantage.
+/-White has the upper hand
-/+Black has the upper hand
+/=White stands slightly better.
=/+Black stands slightly better.
=Even ; a draw.
